Description — Riverine

Riverine habitat is the belt of denser vegetation along permanent or seasonal rivers — gallery forest, reed edges and drainage-line thickets inside otherwise open country. Hunters meet it on almost every serious African safari even when the brochure leads with “savanna.”

It is where animals drink, rest and travel. Tracking along a sandy riverbed, sitting on a bend, or still-hunting the gallery edge are standard tactics. Dangerous game often uses riverine cover for shade and escape.

Ask how much of your hunt will be riverine versus open blocks — packing and shot expectations change when half the week is spent in thick gallery bush.
